Auditors are not the villains of the financial sector – 5.6.2013

This was the conclusion of the second edition of the national contest in audit for students “Young Auditor”. The awarding ceremony of the contest was held on June 5, 2013. The contest “Young Auditor” is organized for the second year by Higher School of Insurance and Finance (VUZF University) together with audit firms HLB Bulgaria Ltd. and Zaharinova & Partners Ltd.

The organizers aim, through the competition, to promote the audit profession among young people, as well as to stress the role of auditing in the business community and society in general.

“The positive news is that more and more Bulgarian entrepreneurs and institutions understand that the role of the auditor is not so much to control them, but to provide external, objective assessment of the their financial standing and performance.” said Jan Skvaril, Managing Partner of HLB Bulgaria.

Prof. Grigorii Vazov, PhD, President and Rector of the VUZF University, in turn, stressed that “the audit profession is extremely prestigious and difficult community to get access in, ie to become an auditor requires diligence, ambition and precision.”.

This year, 177 students from 17 universities across the country participated in the contest. Audit profession continues to be more attractive for ladies who formed two-thirds of the participants.Winners in this years competition are Eva Ilieva from the University of Economics in Varna, Diana Gineva and Safet Kadir, both from the University of National and World Economy. The winners received scholarships and internships provided by organizers – VUZF University, HLB Bulgaria and Zaharinova & Partners.

The awards ceremony was attended by a number of special guests, including Prof. Valeriy Dimitrov, President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office; Ms. Vania Doneva, Chairman of the Commission for Public Oversight of Statutory Auditors; Mr. Biser Petkov, Governor of the National Social Security Institute; Boyko Kostov, President of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants; Mrs. Boryana Pencheva, Member of the Governing Council of the Bulgarian National Bank and other important representatives of the finance community.
